These wall tiles are slip cast from a slab built model, to insure consistency in size and shape. They’re treated with terra sigillata, a slip made of fine particles that give color and shine. After the bisque firing they are fired in a saggar (a container that withstands high temperatures) with sawdust, organic combustibles, and metal salts to achieve flashes of color, dark carbon marks, and areas of resist. I play with these variables to produce pattern, line, and imagery on the surfaces. No glaze or underglaze is used. They’re ready to hang, to clean simply give it a quick rinse and buff with a soft cloth.
